When deciding on a subject package for matric, you need to ask yourself the following: |

NUMERACY |

- Financial maths involving H.P. payments, V.A.T., exchange rates, investments & their interest rates.
- The number system with number patterns and number relations.
- The technique of proving a statement via counter examples.

ALGEBRA & FUNCTIONS |
| |
|
- Graphs & applications in e.g. population growth, investments, sports analyses & productivity.
- The usual algebraic skills covered in the old curriculum but not as in depth in its complexities.
- Modelling, which involves generalising a pattern or observation.

1.3 |
SPACE & SHAPE |
| |
|
- Transformation of shapes (linked with Art & Computer Graphics & Biology).
- Co-ordinate geometry (e.g. navigation & computer graphics).
- Area, volumes & conversion of units of measure
- A watered down version of the "old" Euclidean geometry.
- Trigonometry (basic at Grade 10 level).

DATA HANDLING |

- (Statistics) represent data collected, in different forms.
- Analyse results with central tendencies and dispersion.
- Make predictions based on these results.
- Calculate the risk involved.
- These are applied in a variety of practical contexts e.g. medical, political, sport, educational, socio-economic.

Each of the above sections involve “optional” parts, which involve more in depth and challenging concepts.

- To equip learners to survive, financially, as consumers and investors now & in their future.
- To create an analytical, logical mind in life with decision making & interpretation.
- To provide the tools for application in other learning areas and employment.
- To appreciate the culture of art at a deeper level.
- To provide a foundation for further education & professions.
