Leadership 2013

One of the schools outstanding features is its unique student Leadership structure, comprising an executive, prefect body and mentoring programme.  The four members of the Executive fulfil the multi-faceted function of the traditional head and deputy-head prefects, each assuming one of four portfolios:  High School, Junior School, Humanities, and Sport. Eight prefects complete the elected leadership.  The rest of the Grade 12 students are appointed as mentors for the junior school.  This gives every learner the opportunity to develop their leadership skills. In Grade 11 the girls are asked to apply to be prefects and mentors and thus motivate why they should be selected/ trusted to serve the school in this way.  The prefects are assigned to the High School classes.  Our Mentors are assigned to Junior School classes where they spend time with the children each morning and raise any concerns they may have about the little ones in their charge.  They are held in high esteem by their charges!  They are both respected and loved which boosts their self-esteem.  It is wonderful to continually have our ‘big girls’ interacting with the younger learners. Through this system of servant leadership, we try to build our ‘Fatima Family’ spirit.
