Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 - 7)

The Intermediate Phase incorporates a “hands on” technique, offering learners the opportunity to participate in numerous tours, field trips, outings, drama productions, market days, community outreach programs, and a wide variety of extra-mural sports and cultural activities. Each class of 28 learners is led by a qualified, experienced educator and supported by a range of specialist educators. We also have a support structure available to learners with special needs, involving a learner support teacher.

Our Academics and Assessment Methods are in accordance with the CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement)

Learning areas include:

Languages: English and Afrikaans
Mathematics
Social Sciences: History (including Zulu conversation and culture) and Geography
Natural Science and Technology
Computers
Art and Culture: Visual Art, Music and Drama
Life Orientation: Religious Education, Physical Education and Life Skills.

We have a very full extra-mural calendar and all pupils are encouraged to take part. The following activities are offered during the year. Netball (outdoor and indoor), Hockey (outdoor and indoor for Gr 6&7), Swimming, Tennis, Cross Country, Horse Riding, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Public Speaking, Environmental Club, Needlework, Choir, Ensemble Choir, Voice Training and Recorder. Outside service providers run the Craft Club, Photography Club and Karate.

Charity Drives and Community Outreach:

Markets days are held each term and there are weekly charity collections. The money raised is used to support a number of very worthwhile charity projects and the children are encouraged to give of their time to visit the recipients.

Humanities:

Talent exhibited in the field of Art, Music and Drama is showcased in our Cultural Evenings and Productions, when every learner has the opportunity to shine on stage, choreograph, design costumes and sets or work back stage. Our Choirs perform at regular festivals and concerts. We also exhibit at local exhibitions.

Fatima families have been established to foster caring Christian relationships with children from Grade 1 to the “big sister” in Grade 7. Our Mentoring Leadership system allows our Grade 12 girls to interact with and to nurture our junior school girls.
